Human activity can have harmful effects on ecological systems, climate and public health. Recognizing this, we at Porto Angeli Hotel are committed to reducing our environmental footprint and promoting environmental stewardship at all levels of our organization. Our goal is to minimize our organization’s impact and maximize future generations’ ability to live, work, and play in our shared natural environment, with equal access to clean air, clean water, and natural resources. We have therefore implemented a series of improvements within our establishment. These are:
Solar thermal panels, generate hot water for various uses. Temperature and flow are continuously monitored by the building management system. Heat pumps generate warm water through a heat recovery system significantly lowering fossil fuel consumption.
Latest technology inverter type such as A/C as well as A/C recovery systems keep energy consumption to the minimum while providing for ideal temperature levels.Cleaning the pools on a daily basis helps prevent the build-up of algae which otherwise leads to the deployment of additional chemicals.
Paper cartons and opened cans are collected daily and sent off to a recycling plant. Recycled paper is used wherever possible and office printing scrap paper is reutilized for secondary use. Glass bottles are collected on a daily basis and sent off to a recycling plant. As climate control is a major factor of global warming we have taken care that temperature loss is kept to the minimum with double glazed windows.
Used batteries are collected and sent off to a recycling plant. Used waste oil and grease are sent off in order to be turned into biodiesel, an environmentally friendly energy product which results in a significant reduction in greenhouse gases compared to petro-diesel. Automatic timer switches control daylight activity signaling outdoor lights to switch off thus saving energy. In addition the bar area has been equipped with new outdoor table lamps with embedded solar panels and energy storage capabilities thus providing ecofriendly lighting during the night.
All incandescent light bulbs have been replaced by either Light Emitting Diodes (LED’s) or Compact Fluorescents (CFL’s) thus reducing the kilo-watts of electricity used as well as the average life span of light bulbs.
Use of modern energy technology. For instance, energy management systems in all guest rooms include: Hot-cold mixer tabs, main switches with magnetic key, which deactivate energy in the room as well as circuit breakers and contacts fitted to windows and doors. These switch off air-conditioning when a window or a door is opened.
By installing dual flush converters in toilets we have managed to limit excess water usage by a significant amount. By covering all rooftops with artificial green turf and gravel we achieve even higher levels of insulation thus providing for improved climate control during the hot months of summer.
Recycling bins have been placed around the resort and in each hotel room alongside an informative leaflet advising how guests can further support the hotel’s green initiative.
